Marketing Research Surveys - Earn Cash and Freebies

By Mike J Collins Taking part in marketing research surveys is a great way to earn some extra cash while also getting free stuff. I used to participate in quite a few surveys for a marketing company that was near my office. Unfortunately, I moved and its no longer convenient for me. But if you can find a reputable marketing firm near you, you can take advantage of some great offers. How do marketing research surveys work? Theyre actually pretty simple. When you participate in a survey, youll be asked to fill out an application that contains some basic information about yourself. Youll then be put in a group with other participants and given a product to try out. It could be a new board game, a kitchen gadget, a toy, or even food. One of my favorite marketing research surveys was for a pizza chain that was tinkering with its recipe. We stuffed our faces with every type of pizza you can imagine. Once youve had ample time to properly test out the product, youre given a short questionnaire to fill out. It just asks basic questions about what you liked and disliked about the product and how likely you would be to pay for it in the future. That is usually followed up by a short group session where all the participants can discuss their opinions together while a moderator asks follow-up questions. Once the group session is complete, they pay you and send you on your way. You wont be paid a fortune, but most companies at least give you enough for a tank of gas. Occasionally theyll let you take home a sample of the product you tested too. What kind of people are needed for marketing research surveys? Marketing companies need people from all walks of life. They want a wide variety of people who have different incomes, interests and lifestyles. This will give them a sampling of what the general public thinks about their products. By participating in marketing research surveys, youll also have a voice in the types of products that go on the market. In the age of the internet, many companies now conduct marketing research surveys online, which is cheaper for them and more convenient for you. If youd like to get paid for taking marketing research surveys online, there are many companies from which to choose. But before you do, be sure to read Are Paid Surveys a Scam? at http://www.mikesmoneytips.com/paid-online-surveys-a-scam.php Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Mike_J_Collins http://EzineArticles.com/?Marketing-Research-Surveys---Earn-Cash-and-Freebies&id=524899 zolpidem in mexico

Bridal Hair and Makeup

By Asuncion Parra Llorente Bridal Hair and Makeup A wedding day is most likely to be one of the most treasured days in a brides life. With brides such as Cinderella and Snow White as role models, it is of no surprise that expectations are at their highest. Therefore, brides expect to look and feel their best. It is what a bride deserves. That is where a makeup artist can enter with the wand and add to the dazzle and elegance of the wedding day. Bridal hair and makeup should be simple, yet elegant. It is important t remember that the hair and makeup should not compete with the brides dress; rather the hair and makeup should complement the dress. Equally important, is knowing the expectations of the bride. The makeup artist should note that the bride will want to feel comfortable, not confined by her bridal hair and makeup. Being comfortable may also mean keeping the makeup simple, not vibrant. This may not be the day to experiment with a new style. The bride does not want to feel self-conscious of her new look. She will want everyone to notice her beauty today and for years that follow in photographs. Todays bridal makeup and hair is soft and subtle. The effect is sexier, less harsh. Hair can be worn down, flowing with loose curls and waves. The updo that once dominated the bridal hair scene has a much softer look as well. Todays updo style is not sprayed, pinned, and tucked to hide every loose hair. The look is pinned and tousled, leaving it soft and stylish. The bridal hair is romantic. Bridal makeup trends are soft and romantic to complement the hair and latest trends in bridal gowns and bridal hair. No longer do the lips have to be lined heavily and matte foundation with loose powder applied. While this is traditional, todays bridal makeup is more radiant and natural. Todays brides want to glow with elegance. There are some bridal hair and makeup rules and tips that the makeup artist can follow to ensure the wedding day will be a beautiful success. Rules for Makeup and Hair 1. Have a portfolio or picture selection available for brides-to-be to view along with the bridal makeup used. Often, it is difficult for a bride to express into words the look she is going for. Photographs can help you communicate. 2. Set up consultation. This should be done a few weeks ahead of time. During the consultation, note the time of day the wedding will take place, flowers, dress style and color, hair color, bridal hair style, eye color, time of year, and personality. If possible, communicate with the stylist to discuss the hair style. 3. It may also be a good idea to ask to see some of the makeup products that the bride is already using. This will give you a good insight as to what the bride is accustomed to wearing. 4. Discuss different bridal hair and makeup trends. Allow the bride to get a visual by seeing the photos. Then follow by setting up a second appointment. 5. It is at the second meeting that you can unveil your plans for makeup. Demonstrate your selection for the bride-to-be. Demonstrate more than one bridal makeup style and photograph the results. Samples of bridal color schemes: Select a simple bridal makeup color scheme. The eyes, cheeks, and lips will all be in the same family; cool or warm. If the bride is wearing white and has dark hair, introduce colors in the pink/rose family. Keep the plan simple. Mauve/rose shadow, rose blush, rose lips. Select a different scheme that complements the flower choice. If the bride is carrying a peach colored bouquet, try using copper or bronze shadow. Use a combination of pink and peach on the cheeks and a lipstick in a peach tone.
Bridal eye makeup should be soft. Choose a brown or chestnut eye liner. The line should be subtle and blended well.
Follow using water proof mascara, keeping in mind tears and smearing. When choosing bridal foundation makeup, think of longevity and photography. The makeup will need to last, even under the photographers lights, without being too heavy. Todays market has several photo finish foundations. Try a light bronzing powder to add warmth and softness. Another trend in formal weddings is strong, yet sultry bridal makeup. A formal wedding can be complemented using a matte foundation, black liner for the eyes done in a subtle way, pink rouge, and matte red lipstick. Liner must be used to contain the red lipstick and prevent it from bleeding. This is a dramatic, evening bridal look that is perfect for such a formal affair. Todays bride wants to show her beauty in a natural, sensual way. The makeup artist can provide the bride with confidence and easy elegance that will be reminisced often. Recycle Those Clippings

By James F. Burns Alright. The mowing season will soon be upon us, and I know that you can't wait to break the old mower out, gas it up, check the oil, and get started. Before you do, let me ask you a question. Thinking of bagging those lawn clippings? Don't do it! Just back away from the bagger for a second and lend me your ears (ok, your eyes). The very best way to use those lawn clippings, is by letting nature do the work for you. Consider this: Every year your lawn creates about a hundred pounds of nitrogen per acre. That is over two pounds of nitrogen per one thousand square feet, which is roughly equivalent to two fertilizer applications per year. It is estimated by many experts, that up to 60 percent of the fertilizer applied to your lawn is removed by removing the clippings. When you bag, you are removing a significant amount of organic matter from your lawn, and organic matter is something all lawns need to remain healthy and strong, but aside from these factors there is the other kind of green to think of, those green clippings that you are sending to the landfill, could be green backs in your wallet! It may not seem like much, but, the money saved over time, can be substantial if you have a large lawn. Now, there is work involved. If you wait too long between cuttings, the grass could grow so much that the cuttings do not break down quickly, but I know, if you are reading this, that you are interested in creating a healthy lawn, and would never allow that to happen. Mowing frequency is a big part of good lawn care, and on most of our grasses, the more frequently you mow, the better the quality of your lawn. This helps in a couple of ways: It makes the clippings easier for nature to break down into nitrogen. It causes the grass to grow laterally, thus getting thicker, and filling in the empty spaces, or as we say, it "tightens the turf". This makes your lawn more wear tolerant. In the turf industry we call these practices, cultural practices, and good cultural practices lead to good healthy lawns.
I hope you will give this consideration when the time to begin mowing arrives. It is the most ecological, economical and aesthetic way to a better lawn! James Burns is a licensed pest control professional, has been a Certified Professional Turfgrass Manager for more than 16 years, has a lifetime of experience in horticulture and agriculture, and is the owner of Rational Environmental Solutions, an IPM based pest control company in East Texas. A Personal Loan Can Bring You a Fortune or Failure

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Soren_Breiting]Soren Breiting How you handle your personal loans can make the difference between a fortune and failure for life. From birth to death we all have different needs and requirements. To know some basic facts and some real life experience is important to make the best out of life and to avoid misery with personal loans and other kinds of loan-taking. The personal loan The personal loan is a loan for yourself or your family. In this way it differs from a loan for a business or the loans related to long term mortgage for buying houses and other real estate. The danger of a personal loan is that what you get from it often disappears during a few years. You might ask for a personal loan to finance a vacation, some household goods or for the purpose of dept consolidation. Compared to a business-type loan the personal loan is often a short-term investment - the business-type loan is a more long-term investment, but of course the business can go wrong. Even more long-term is the financing of real estate as an investment and the value of real estate will typical stay there or even increase during longer time spans. A car loan A car loan is in some way an in-between loan: You get the value of the car, and the bank is backed by collateral (the ‘automobile’), but during 10 years the car looses its value and during these years you should get rid of your car-loan. If you aren’t able to get through your installments you will get into misery with your loan. If you don’t fulfill the requirements in the loan contract the bank or another loan provider will take back the car, and you will be left with nothing. Loan and time Time is an important aspect of all kinds of loan taking. During time the amount of value you have to pay back will typical decrease due to inflation. But at the same time the rates of interest play a more than crucial role. Never, ever take a loan with delayed paying of rates of interest, unless it is a student loan to finance your education and studies. In that case be very basic in your requirements for daily life –as that will help you later. Student loan As soon as you graduate and get a job make sure you eliminate your student loan with a debt consolidation loan. Student loan consolidation is a must unless you have a wealthy family and then I doubt you will be in need for any student loans. For the student loan consolidation you should be better served by a government sponsored federal student loan than by a private loan. Anyway seek for financial advice and remember that many financial advisors aren’t independent, but earn from their advice and what you agree upon as conditions for a loan. Loan and long-term quality of life The earlier in life the more important it is to be modest in requirements not to build up a lot of debt but to make use of personal loans at a minimum and to use that to increase your long-term quality of life. Save a fixed part of the money you earn and keep your luxury dreams until later in life. Loan and your whole life Nothing in life is as bad an investment as a superfluous, luxury car. An expensive car loan has paved the road to failure for many, while investment in real estate at the right time has helped many to achieve a fortune without any hard time through a proper equity home loan. Similarly a home improvement loan can be a good investment, especially if such an construction home loan isn’t used for tearing down too much before adding a construction of real value to the house. Loans should be taken for added value. Soren Breiting is a family father with four grown up children who have learned to take care of their economy in time. Lose Fat Instead of Muscle or Water Weight

By Scott Magers DONT BE FOOLED BY THE SCALE The weight displayed on your bathroom scale does not mean much when you consider the following: 60% of total body mass is water weight. Water retention is influenced by water consumption and salt intake. The less water you drink the more water you retain. Sodium is a sneaky substance. One half cup of instant pudding has 4 times the sodium of salted nuts (460mg vs. 123mg). The greater the processing the greater the sodium content. Read labels, canned foods, boxed mixes and frozen dinners are usually very HIGH in sodium while fruits, vegetables, lean meats and beans are very LOW. Glycogen is the fuel tank of stored carbohydrate in the liver and muscle tissue. Glycogen stores can fluctuate your weight by 4-5 pounds without changing your amount of body fat. There are 3500 calories contained in ONE POUND of fat. So it is therefore impossible to gain 5 pounds (17,500 calories) from one meal. When the scale goes up 3-4 pounds overnight its likely to be water; glycogen and the weight of your dinner. The scale weighs muscle, bone, water, internal organs and fat. When you lose weight that doesnt necessarily mean that youve lost fat. Losing MUSCLE is nothing to celebrate about since muscle is METABOLICALLY active tissue. The more muscle you have the more calories your body burns while exercising. A lean body can burn up to 200 more calories per hour during aerobic activity than those with average body composition. KEYS TO FAT LOSS If you want to increase your lean muscle tissue and reduce body fat here is the list you must become familiar with: Perform weight lifting exercises Consume adequate amounts of complete protein each meal Get proper rest Stimulate your pituitary gland to increase hGH levels, eat low glycemic foods Keep your stress levels low Exercise in the morning on an empty stomach Balance your macro-nutrients (protein, carbohydrates and nutritional fats) Add interval training while doing cardiovascular exercise Take daily micro-nutrient supplements (vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants) Avoiding high glycemic Avoiding trans-fatty acids (potato chips and French fries), hydrogenated oils, and too much saturated fat. Eliminating refined sugars Eating every 3-4 hours to keep blood sugar levels stable (use a meal replacement drink or snack between meals for convenience and increasing protein levels). Your success in dropping body fat and increasing your energy levels starts with the understanding of these concepts. Take time to go over; memorize and incorporate these HABITS into your daily schedule. You will be AMAZED with the results! Scott Magers is a leading educator, formulator, and motivator in the field of nutrition and fitness. Boost Your Child's Vision

By Vanessa Pruitt Vision problems often run in families, but there are some factors that you can control in your childs environment to help their eyesight. Try these tips to give your childs vision a better chance. Brighten things up. Unfortunately, your mom was right: reading in dim light can wreak havoc on your eyes. Buy your child a good reading light, or make sure that homework is done in plenty of natural light. Give them space. Place a pillow about eight feet away from the TV, and tell your child they have to watch it from that distance. Sitting too close to a television leads to the same focus problems that your child can develop from using computers and video games. Take breaks. Experts agree that kids increased computer use can cause focus problems, particularly the ability to refocus on objects far away. Take note of how much time they spend in front of the computer, and make sure they take a ten-minute break every hour. Buy shades. Your child may not need glasses, but its a good idea to buy them sunglasses. UV exposure can lead to macular degeneration or the early development of cataracts. Dont skip eye exams. Children should be screened by an eye doctor or pediatrician between 6 and 12 months, 3 and 3 years, at 5, and then annually after that. Its not too late for adults to start practicing these techniques, also. Make them a family habit, and you could slow the loss of your vision as you age. Its important to set a good example for your children, too. This article has been written by Vanessa Pruitt, a mom working at home to promote wellness. Embroidery Stabilizing for Machine Embroidering

By Sandy Carter Here are some tips to get good results with your embroidery designs sewing. 1. When it's possible, run your outline stitching first, this will help stabilize your fabric even further! 2. I prefer layering solvy while stitching out a design to add dimension. Sometimes the "film" solvy can get a bit heavy using this technique, causing stiffness and can be difficult to remove. We've found a great "web" type that gets the job done with less stiffness and is super easy to remove! The film type soluble is still best for the base layer & I use it for every design I stitch on any fabric that water will not harm. 3. We've all heard the "stabilize, stabilize, ..." To the point that I'm now seeing a lot of you over stabilizing! This creates as many problems as you're trying to eliminate and wasting money. Don't over stabilize, use 1 or 2 layers of the correct stabilizer. Ask us about our commercial backings to get the best possible results for all your embroidery needs! 4. I always start with a commercial fusible backing in the appropriate weight for the fabric or garment I'm stitching on. We have 3 weights of fusibles in both permanent-for dense designs-and tear away. Two of them come in a generous 48" width. 5. If your skin is sensitive, we suggest using our soft tear away backing under a fusible layer for any garments that will lay next to the skin. The soft tear away is - also rated by the US government - for use in children's sleep wear and is formaldehyde free! 6. If you enjoy creating wearable art that's quilted, stippled or uses the trapunto technique, we have a great "fill" backing that won't make your garment look like a down jacket and is dense enough not to pull apart when it's laundered! Ephedra - Is It Really Dangerous?

By Tamara Dorris It's so difficult to know what to take and what not to take. First, we hear that Ginkgo Biloba is good for our hearts and our brains, then they tell us is causes excessive bleeding, which can be life threatening in some situations---such as taking it prior to surgery. Next it was Kava Kava, an ancient root that has been relaxing islanders for years, and now the media says it causes liver damage. And what about Ephedra? While I have great respect for the medical community at large, I find it frustrating that many natural supplements are being labeled as dangerous when that just isn't the case. Ephedra has suffered the same bad rap. The properties of the Ma Huang plant have been healing people for 5,000 years, yet in the last 10 or 20 years, authorities are calling it dangerous. And I can tell you why. Because anytime that something makes a person feel good, there will be people who abuse and over use it. Epedra fits into that category. Even though Ma Huang has been relieving our ancestors of various ailments---from asthma to lethargy-for centuries upon centuries, as soon as word got out in the West that one could lose weight and feel great (Ephedra speeds up metabolism and burns fat) a few people over indulged. Before too long, Ephedra was being touted as dangerous and it was temporarily banned in diet products. Having written two preventative health books and an on-going health column, I have had the opportunity to interview many authors, researchers, and physicians, both medical and naturopaths. The one thing I have learned in all of this is that nearly anything can be dangerous in excess. Many prescription drugs kills people every day. There are certain vitamins that would be toxic if you took too many. Not unlike drinking or recreational drugs, just about anything you consume, whether a natural or man-made supplement, has the potential to cause harm. In conclusion, I am convinced that Ephedra has gotten an unfair reputation as being a dangerous supplement when indeed, the danger only comes when people do not pay attention to the labels on the pills or do not consult their own health care practitioner when starting a new product. It only makes sense that a diet supplement that helps one lose weight is going to speed up the metabolism in order to burn fat, so, a person with heart disease would be remiss to partake without medical supervision. In my opinion and years of experience in a wide variety of medicinal herbs and supplements, I have found that the current Ephedra-based products on the market (when they abide by the current standard of 10 mg) are no more stimulating then two cups of coffee. As a society, it is our responsibility to pay attention to what we consume, act responsibly, and follow the recommended dosage. When we fail to do so, we wind up having products and supplements that are otherwise useful and beneficial, taken off the market for no one to enjoy. IROs and the Hospital Peer Review Process

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Skip_Freedman] Skip Freedman Many hospital CEOs, medical directors and risk managers are hesitant to consider outsourcing peer reviews, because they simply have never done so in the past. They have concerns about invasive scrutiny by external organizations, potential loss of control, the possible polarizing effect on their staff and a fear that the focus will be on finding and punishing bad doctors. Because of inherent conflicts of interest that exist in hospitals peer review process, hospital quality management systems need to ensure objectivity and adherence to accepted medical protocols. For this reason, many hospital groups are proactively moving toward Independent Review Organizations for unbiased peer reviews. Not only are they seeing this as a best practice, but they also gain other benefits, including rapid resolution of sensitive cases, heading off high-profile lawsuits, reducing internal polarization and preventing damage to physicians careers. Done correctly, peer review takes a systematic approach to determining the reasons for sentinel events that have undesirable outcomes. The focus is not on good doctor or bad doctor issues, but on a broader range of questions such as: Was there adequate support? Were the protocols and processes defined? Do we have the right physician expertise and training to consistently produce positive patient outcomes? Do we need better trained assistance? The true goal of the peer review process is not to point fingers or punish people, but to improve patient safety by identifying quality management issues and fixing them. How To Stay Happily Married

By Sheryl Letzgus McGinnis With the divorce rate as high as 60%, according to some statistics, it seems as though our whole country needs a lesson on how to stay happily married. Not just married, but happily married. Believe it or not, it can be done! Being married does not mean that you give up your rights as an individual, nor should it mean that you disregard the niceties and pleasantries that attracted your mate to you in the first place. When I was young, little girls dreamed of meeting their knight in shining armor who would whisk them away from their dreary life, ensconce them in a little bungalow with a white picket fence and two cats in the yard. Ok so thats part of a song title but still thats what little girls of days of yore envisioned. Things have changed!! Boy have they changed. Our white knights today are also looking for someone who will help take care of them. Something unheard of when I was a child. Men were manly men and they didnt need anyone to take care of them. Men can still be manly men but todays sensitive women realize that men have the same needs that we women do. Men need to feel loved, wanted, respected, needed, and above all, desired. Too often, we let our own selfish needs supersede that of our mates. That is not to say that women should subjugate their wants and desires for themselves to men, nor vice versa. What we need to do is recognize each others needs and always aim for fair play. What is the refrain from childhood that you probably still hear in your mind today? Its Thats not fair!! All any child wants is to be treated fairly. We tend to forget this after we marry, and become complacent in our life, with our mate. When children are added to the mix, the complacency toward the marriage and spouse can degenerate to the point where married couples sometimes are no more than roommates to each other. What began as the embodiment of the Cinderella fairy tale begins to take on all the manifestations of a Grimms Fairy Tale. What happened? Where did the magic go? When your spouse walks into the room, where is the fluttering in your heart that once made you feel so alive, so happy to see him or her? Realistically, we know that this intense feeling of puppy love and unbridled passion cant last forever. If it did, wed never get on with the rest of our lives. For heavens sake, wed never go to work or do any housework. We wouldnt know any other rooms in the house existed other than the bedroom. So how do we at least keep the embers burning with occasional sparks of pure passion? I am not a marriage counselor or professional expert by any stretch of the imagination. But what I do have is 40 years experience of being a happily married womanmost of the time. This isnt a fairy tale so lets be honest here. Life has its ups and downs and married life seems to have more of them than single life. Here are some Dos and Donts then on how to improve your odds of being in the 40% of marriages. Well start with the Donts. I would say the most important criterion for a happy marriage is not to get married too young! Sow those wild oats and sow them with abandon. Enjoy your singlehood. Reach out and experience all of lifes flavors. Travel, go to school, meet a lot of new and exciting people. With luck and some hard work, youll be married for many, many years and you dont want to look back on what you should have done, could have done. Just because all your friends are getting married and popping out babies 1,2,3, doesnt mean you should.
Dont have unrealistic expectations of what married life should be. Remember you and your spouse are the same people as you were before you were married. If you were happyor miserable then, marriage wont change this.
Never take your spouse for granted. This is probably one of the biggest marriage killers, next to adultery and money problems. Just because youre married doesnt mean the Valentines Day gifts should stop or the phone calls during the day just to chat, and on and on and on ad infinitum.
Never argue over money. This is a very hard one to adhere to but try you must if you want to maintain a happy married life. Make sure youre both on the same page when it comes to finances before you get married. If one of you is a spender, and the other a saver, youd better have some sort of game plan before you walk down that aisle otherwise youre walking right into marital, if not, financial doom.
This one is primarily for women try not to put the children ahead of your husbandor at least try to work out some rational fair balance. (Remember thats not fair?) When women become moms, something incredible happens to us. Something that other non-moms cannot understand. Our child (children) is now the most important things in our life. We are mama bears looking out for our cubs and damned anyone who tries to interfere with this bond. But before we were moms, we were mates and we must never forget that. Some important Dos So do make time for your mate. Every married couple should have a Date Night. It doesnt have to be a Saturday night. It can be a Sunday morning brunch, just the two of you, or a night out at the movies or dinner at some out of the way place where you wont run into friends and spend the whole night talking to other people. Make this a time for just you and your spouse.
Always make time for passion. A common complaint from spouses (although this is primarily a mans complaint) is that their partner is too tired for sex. If one partner is too tired, then the other partner should do whatever it takes to help alleviate this condition, perhaps helping out with the dishes or helping to vacuum, and make beds. Whatever it takes to resolve the problem. Just like the people who say they never have time to exercise, there are those who say they dont have time, or are too tired for, sex. You can always find time. Lack of time or lack of energy is really just an excuse.
Compliment each other. It isnt just women who need compliments. Men need them too. If your spouse looks particularly appealing dont just think it and keep it to yourself. Let them know right then and there that youre admiring them, that you appreciate them. If you think your spouse is a great parent, let them know. None of us are mindreaders.
Take time to laugh with each other. Laughing is definitely good for our mental and physical health.
Some people advocate never going to bed angry. Sounds good but truth be told an awful lot of us would be up all night then! Sometimes its good to let things cool down and literally sleep on them. Cooler heads may prevail in the morning. Fight fair (heres that fair word again). Leave the past in the past and keep your fights limited to the issue at hand. Remembering why you fell in love with your spouse, and realizing that marriage is not always a 50/50 proposition (sometimes its 70/30 or 90/10), treating your spouse with the same consideration and respect that you would a friend or co-worker, will go a long way in helping to insure a long, and yes, a happy marriage. There is an old 30s or 40s song sung by Ella Fitzgerald which says into each life some rain must fall and when it rains in your life, which it inevitably will, youll be glad to have the comfort and love of someone who has stood by your side throughout the years. Someone you didnt throw away because of a temporary idea that single life is better or that marriage was boring or hard work. You may not be sitting on your front porch in your rocking chair. Heck, you may be out dancing and boogying with the best of them. And the longer youre married, the more you will appreciate the person with whom you chose to spend the rest of your life. Penpals FBs Decos Crams - Unveiling the Secret Code

By Sara Duggan Remember when you were a little girl or boy and you did a school project with pen pals? Do you ever wish you could undertake that hobby again? About a month ago I was re-introduced to this craft. However, instead of your everyday pen pal relationships where one writes another a letter I found an underground world that is both fascinating and creative--A world of art and collectors. It is a world filled with its own language filled with others just like myself who are addicted to snail-mail. I joined a pen pal group and was surrounded by code FBs, Slams, Crams, Decos, FSS, NSW, NPW, etc I started researching what all this code meant and started a wee web site of definitions. Decos or Decorated Friendship Books are by far my newfound obsession. I really find that my artistic juices flow through swapping these with other moms across the world. I have been involved with swapping these for less than 2 months and have already received mail from Sweden, Germany, Spain, Estonia, and Russia. It is really exciting to find new pen pals from different cultures and to see how they decorate the book. Friendship books are little booklets of paper no more than 4 pages thick that are swapped among pen pals. When you receive one, you sign it with your name and address and note whether you are seeking new pen pals or swappers. A FSS or Friendship Sheet is the same as a Friendship book but done on 1 sheet of paper. A Cram is a small piece of paper that is used as a friendship sheet however you gather as many pen pals on your small piece of paper before sending it back to its owner. All the above are used as a means to gather more friends and/or to get to know your friends better. A Slam, unlike a friendship book, is a booklet filled with questions youd like to know about your pen pals. These are not the hate-filled books of high school. Sara Duggan is a mom of 2 boys and married to her soulmate of 11 years. She enjoys crocheting and writing in her spare time. Pen Pals For Dating And Romance

By Stephanie Constantina The term "pen pals" seems on the face of it rather old-fashioned, especially in the context of the Internet with its instant messaging, chat rooms and social bookmarking sites. "Pen pals" as a term seems to come from a by-gone age when people would spend a couple of hours penning a letter on thick patterned paper, dipping into an ink well a long white quill pen made from a swan's feather. But don't be misled by this. The term "pen pals" has persisted into the Internet age, and come to mean different things to different people. It still has its original meaning of remote friends in different parts of the world who you write to. But for many singles, becoming a pen pal is seen as a way into using the online personals for single dating. Seeing yourself as a single pen pal who is seeking other single pen pals, has many advantages when it comes to dating online. To begin with it offers that extra layer of protection or insulation that allows you to say if necessary: I'm just here as a pen pal, I am not interested in romance. It's a potential last resort, if the going gets tough. Being a single pen pal also gives you the advantage of time. As a single pen pal you can take your time with a new contact, getting to know the other person and only gradually sounding that person out as a potential dating partner. You can also have many such contacts on the go at the same time, providing you with the opportunity to see which ones might be romantically inclined and which not. However, time can also work against you. If you spend all your time chatting to people who are ultimately not going to become potential dating partners then that may be time lost, depending on whether you see online friendships as an end in themselves or not. If you have plenty of time to chat to people online, if you are young and not in a hurry to find a dating partner, then this may well be a good approach for you. At the very least, it feels safer. Certainly when you approach dating through the route of pen pals -- or more directly -- online dating gives you the advantage that you have the time to "suss somebody out", rather than trying to weigh her or him up in the short space of an hour or two in the heady context of an actual date. That is the big advantage lent to dating by the Internet; the disadvantage is that you cannot see somebody face-to-face and see their body language, and so be in a position to make judgments about them and their potential as a dating partner based on these 'traditional' factors. So, see online single dating for what it is, a system that has its limitations but does give you the advantage of time -- so long as you are not in too much of a hurry -- an advantage of time that can sometimes be better utilized by becoming a pen pal. You can find out more about becoming a single pen pal, as well as browsing the online profiles of potential pen pals here: Pen Pals: Female Friends or Male Friends. Three Steps You Need To Know To Improve Your Learning And Have Better Grades

By Emmanuel Segui "I'm a failure" "I'll never make it." That's the kind of affirmation we hear people say. To overcome this feeling of worthlessness you need to make 3 little steps that will help you discover the genius within you. 1. You need to motivate yourself. First of all, remember that great people learned a basic and essential quality you need to acquire: persistence. Very successful people failed many times, like most of us. But they get up right away and they begin again and again until they eventually succeed. We can motivate ourselves by seeing the result in our mind as if it has already occurred. Feel what you would feel if you have better grades. Name this feeling. Amplify this feeling until it becomes very pleasant. Now, you are going to add some new feelings upon this first feeling. Do you remember a time when you were really excited about something? When you have this excitemant in you, add it to the first very pleasant feeling as if you put a coat of excitement over the coat of 'very pleasant state'. Let this feeling of excitement diffuse in you and notice how you feel. Notice how feel very motivated, calm and confident. And for a moment, you know that you will succeed in school. But something holds you back. You need to make this second step.... 2. You need to get rid of the beliefs that hold you back Consider the law of belief: whatever you believe becomes your reality. Once you understand and appropriate this belief in yourself, you discover that you can do many things and especially have better grades. Throughout your life you learn. It's a never-ending process. School is just the beginning of this process with its special rules and rewards, which can sometimes seem unfair. You begin to change by being aware that you are a potential genius and that you CAN do better and you WILL. What do you learn from having bad grades? Consider that it is an opportunity to learn. And most important, it's a chance to learn that you're not the problem; it's only your strategies. That's why you need to take the last lesson... You need to learn how to learn 3. You need new strategies. If something doesn't work, do something else. First, be aware of your learning style. Are you visual, auditory, kinesthetic? Remember that you have multiple intelligences and when you use them as much as possible you increase your chances of having better results. Have the end in mind. Act as if you already had the solution. Now you only need to fill in the blanks. If you already know where to go, your brain will help you find the solutions. Use mind maps, movement and imagination. Learning how to learn is a necessity for children and adults to perform better in life. These three steps are important to succeed in school. One step takes care of your beliefs, another of your emotions and the other one of your strategies to have better grades and to perform better in life. The Athiest's Enigma

By Jard DeVille As an ancient African-American gospel song laments, life is filled with complications, sorrows and defeats for everyone. At times life can become an unmitigated horror as the world slowly but surely converts every plant that grows and ever creature that is born into fertilizer to feed future doomed generations. Nobody knows the trouble Ive seen -- Nobody knows but Jesus. We really are finite beings adrift in an dangerous world, beset consistently by the tragic human triad of suffering, guilt and death. George Santayana, the brilliant Harvard philosopher wrote; Life is neither entertainment nor a feast but a predicament to be resolved in the face of enormous difficulties. Most of us do indeed live out at least some portions of our lives in quiet desperation. As many as one person in five suffers from serious mental or spiritual health disorders at times. In addition, we are all caught up in the frustrations of life virtually all our days. During my half century of psychospiritual research, this puzzle emerged from the writings of men and women like Soren Kierkegaard, Carl Jung, Karen Horney, Otto Rank, Laura Perls, Abraham Maslow Melanie Klein and many others. Some of them started as agnostics or atheists who like Sigmund Freud thought God was a security myth, religion a fraud, worship and prayer naively subjective and faith, hope and love meaningless illusions. I understand their skepticism. How could any serious scholar want anything to do with the state controlled churches of their day -- as the clergy pandered to the nobility and betrayed families into poverty and slaughter in religious and financial wars? Nevertheless, as they matured personally and professionally, when everything psychological had been researched, after theyd reached the limits of psychotherapy, the incredible insights in the following paragraph appeared regularly in many of my most influential scholars lectures, therapy sessions and books. To mature beyond neurotic anxiety, to cope with existential alienation, to live purposefully and win consistent satisfaction, each person must develop a faith as if God were real. We scholars can find no God -- religion probably panders to human weakness, prayer and worship are frauds, Nevertheless, to avoid crippling our souls, we must pretend that God exists and offer devotion to this myth because doing so gives us a crucial sense of security in a dangerous world. We can then live with the illusions of faith, hope and love that are essential for a meaningful life. Oh my -- how wondrously droll, how deeply self-serving, how terribly convoluted! Fortunately, there is a much better way, for according to William of Occam, with all factors being equal, the simplest solution to a problem is usually the best one. Soren Kierkegaard, the always brilliant and forever relevant godfather of modern psychology, the most equal of my score or so authors, along with Ernest Becker, saw life more clearly than most. The Danish philosopher of the First Industrial Revolution, when writing about satisfaction reported; The only way we humans can find contentment in a commercial society is through a self-transcending faith in God that lifts us beyond a fearful, frustrated and meaningless existence. We must become Knights of Faith. You must understand this; In this seminar I examine aspects of human personality and experience that are filled with painful and self-defeating elements. It is worse than useless to ignore our problems when every newspaper exposes us to a flood of human disasters. Nevertheless, my approach is spiritual and positive when followed through to the end. I shall try hard to teach you how to peer into your souls, to balance knowledge and wisdom, psychology and philosophy and the earthy elements of psychotherapy with the cosmic elements of worship -- in order to deal with human suffering and to make life come out well along the way. I use the term psychospiritual with a full understanding of its dual implications of emotional and philosophical elements. SECOND -- THE CONTRITE SPIRIT
The next astonishing consensus to emerge from my brilliant psychological giants is the necessity of personal repentance in the deliverance of ones soul. To resolve our spiritual difficulties, to succeed in our quest for liberation, we must successfully pass through the major emotional crisis of human liberation. During this conflict, the soul with its unconscious scar tissue; repressed, anxious, subjective and frozen at the core of our being, must surrender itself. Selfishness must yield to generosity. We must mature beyond the immature attitude of I - MYSELF ALONE. The seeker after freedom, to use St. Pauls concepts, must nurture a contrite attitude in order to regret and abandon personal selfishness. In psychoanalytic terms, the self must sacrifice the ego in order to become free of its tyranny. Only after we have removed our emotional armor, have matured beyond egoistic self-deception and often gone past the assistance psychotherapy can give us to connect consciously with God, can we find deliverance. We have too many primitive homosapien traits to break free in our own strength. We need assistance to mature beyond our posturing and pretension, past our repressed killer-ape paranoia and nagging anxieties, beyond our compulsive defenses. We must abandon such baggage to escape through the prison bars we ourselves have erected for ego protection against our anxiety and guilt. Only then can we find the courage, knowledge and wisdom to become spiritually and emotionally free as Jesus, St. Paul, Augustine, Martin Luther King and Sister Theresa among many others were liberated souls -- were Kierkegaards Knights of the Spirit. . Our search for freedom via the repentance of our failures, with sincere contrition, creates several crucial questions to be answered as we seek liberation from our homosapien anxiety and rage through faith and self-awareness. We must ask ourselves; How can I end my self-defeating ego defenses, remove my emotional and cultural armor to become the loving parent, supportive spouse and faithful friend I yearn to be? How shall I courageously stand in my quaking and bleeding nakedness - my ego crying out for esteem regardless of who is abused, without being overwhelmed by the cruelties of life? How can I, a mere mortal already living under a death sentence, in a prison of my own making, successfully make my way through this con- fusing maze of suffering, guilt and death that is the unavoidable tragic triad of existence? THIRD -- FOREVER BECOMING
I wish I could tell you that my special scholars identified two shortcuts to soul liberation that shall sweep you into happiness all the days of your life. It would also be wonderful if each person could make a single emotional adjustment, like the religious experience called being born again that is expected by many to guarantee forever each believers spiritual liberation. I recall, during my youth in a fundamentalist revival meeting, an enthusiastic young evangelist begging us to come forward to shake his hand and accept Christ as our personal savior. That would, he assured us, take us straight to heaven regardless of where we strayed or what sins we committed later in life. He pleased some rebellious adolescents greatly but horrified our parents by saying; Come and shake my hand, signifying your acceptance of Christ, and then it doesnt matter whether death overtakes you drunk in a saloon or from the arms of a harlot -- you shall have been saved, you will go directly to heaven for an eternity with Jesus and with God our heavenly father. I remember my father grumbling aghast to my mother; What is that idiot teaching our teenagers -- that living a Christian life gives them license to immorality and sin, to drunkenness and adultery, if you first get saved? Hes a loony. Not only must you talk the talk; each Christian must walk the walk. You must run the race through to the end! I shall elaborate more on this later but for now, let me say here that dealing successfully with life and its problems, with our secret yearnings, is much like following a twelve- steps program for drug addicts. It is never a one-time event such as being redeemed through a simple mental assent. Human nature is too complex for so simplistic a deliverance, although as an aspect of Gods grace, it must begin with contrition and a connection with the Cosmic Creator. Given the fact we are subjective and finite creature-selves, frequently in conflict in an imperfect world, our psychospiritual health is always a life-long project we must accept and follow through to the end. Of course that creates a problem for many because we are such impatient souls. We are indeed attracted to quick fix solutions whether in religion, industry, education or our personal lives. Even more, we really want to pretend nothing is wrong and then when we are forced to face some unpleasant reality, we usually call in a specialist, have the expert do the quick fix and write out a check. Psychospiritual healing doesnt occur that way -- it is process that always extracts a price and often draws blood. Life becomes really satisfying through psychospiritual maturing and no one grows up in a few weeks or months. We mature and nurture ourselves in stages and while others can help, as with Alcoholics Anonymous, you have to very much want to rid yourself of your conscious and unconscious methods of avoiding personal responsibility before you get free. Through this program I shall be dealing with some of the common defenses humans use to feel good about ourselves in a difficult world where life is often nasty, brutish and short. These include keeping secrets from ourselves (repression) -- pretending that unpleasant things didnt occur or really are not that bad (denial) and keeping existence simplistic (avoidance). This leads to yet another paradox. Given the difficult nature of life, while we cope with the tragic triad of suffering, guilt and death, we normally protect our egos in our search for satisfaction, Of course, we all need defenses to avoid severe anxiety that would render us unable to function well. On the other hand, when we use too many ego defenses, they play havoc in our families, companies, churches and communities. Getting along without falling into despair is somewhat like balancing along a tight rope. We live on a continuum between neurotic domination and crippling isolation and we must work every day to make life come out right. Much as a recovering addict must deliberately choose each morning to remain sober even as his or her insecurities are clamoring for counterfeit liberation. Life in the raw is often too painful, too dangerous to face without pretensions, ego games and hidden secrets. In fact, we learn early in childhood that some very nasty things happen to everyone -- that life is fatal in the end with no one getting out alive. Just last week as I write this, a darling little second grade girl in our community slipped on ice while running after a school bus and was crushed in front of many of her schoolmates. It was devastating to them and I wept as I thought of the precious little life cut short in the terrible accident. Amy my own ten year old red-headed, left-handed granddaughter with a mind of her own, recently revealed her anxiety about death to her grandmother. And while I probably would have overwhelmed Amy with my research, Roberta in essence told her that is why we are Christians. She recommended she keep her head cool, her feet warm, her diet modest and to always trust in the Lord. My, oh my -- I do have a bevy of strong women in my life. One wife, one daughter, one daughter in law, several granddaughters and a great granddaughter, who keep me honest and humble in our dealings! To pretend that life is a rose-garden is nothing but self-deception and denial. Therefore we must learn how to cope with the reality of existence that is often very hard to bear without fleeing from reality by becoming neurotic. Unfortunately, reality is so terrible a burden to lay on us as children, while we are learning who we are, where we belong and what life is all about, we all use self-deceptive repression and denial. The key is to keep them from dominating our choices. We must learn how to cope successfully with lifes tragic triad and then work at it regularly. It has become obvious that the great human problems of our era no longer come from the forces of nature but from within ourselves. Wars, hunger for half the worlds people and even global warming are human created conditions. As the great philosopher Pogo Possum (a k a Walt Kelly) said, We have met the enemy and he is us. We are finite beings who simply cannot find redemption and liberation through our own wisdom and courage. With our psychological unconscious scheming selfishly to dominate others, or conversely, yearning for some great, god-like figure to assume our responsibility for life, we lack the spiritual resources to pull it off in our own strength. Fortunately, we can find self-transcending liberation, as reported in the Atheists Enigma and a Contrite Spirit, while we are connected consciously with God. As Pope John Paul II said; We cannot be good without God. To which I add; We cannot even feel consistently satisfied about ourselves and our achievements without a connection with God that lifts us beyond our own failures and insecurities. The Gift of Time

By Bonnie Moss Time is eternal.
It is in abundant supply, yet, there never seem to be
enough of it. Time is precious, but oh, how we squander
time on our hands. Time flies, we ask ourselves, where
does time go? The clock ticks away and so does our
heartbeats as we forge ahead to beat the clock.
For some, the 24 hours of a day are not enough to
allow them to meet all those commitments that
demand time, precious time. People to meet, places
to go, things to do and not enough time to do it all! Thus the word quality time has evolved. Do we
really understand what it means? We share a few
minutes or hours with those we love, we call it
quality time. Is this supposed to fill in the broad
gaps of time away from them? Does this ensure
freedom from guilt as we merrily or hurriedly
go on from project to project? Short and sweet takes on a new meaning- at times
this is all there is to share. Distance is great impediment
to keep families in close touch. Celebrations come and
go, some family members or close friends will always be
absent. They dont have the time to come and share in
a celebration. But, technology offers a variety of options to keep in
touch with anyone, especially those we profess to love.
Many of us have forgotten the wonder of the written
word- a letter or a card in the mail can bring a smile,
tender memories or feelings of joy for the recipient.
But who writes letters these days? How much time
does it take to call someone just to keep in touch? Time is a gift many of us forget its value. In the
midst of a busy life, it is difficult to find the time
to give to anyone but the very immediate
family. Even with this limited circle, time can be
in very short supply. Stop a moment and reflect on this. Where and how do
we spend our time that justifies the lack of it to
share with those we love or care for? The world will
not fall apart if you take some time to be with
those you love. Your business, your career
your hobby, your social life and other commitments
that demand part of your time certainly cant
take priority over your loved ones. Not all the time. Time can be budgeted- for those who are too
busy to stop and think of where their day goes.
How one spends time can be analyzed in order
to make more time for the important issues in life.
Remember, years will pass by, lifestyles can
change and health becomes a concern at one point.
It can happen to us! At a certain stages in life, material gifts do not
matter. A child would rather have the presence of
Mom and Dad at school functions or other activities.
It gives that re-assurance that they really care.
These memories will be cherished for a long time.
An expensive gift clearly. spells guilt and can
not fill in a void nor smooth out feelings of
resentment and disappointment. As we get older, presents do not have the luster
these once had. Tastes and circumstances change.
Time becomes a very dominant part of life at
this stage. Precious time shared leaves a
feeling of being loved, a thoughtful gesture that
warms a lonely heart. A gift of time can be one of the most precious
gifts anyone can share; time that can brighten
up ones life even just for a brief moment. It
leaves memories that will last till the next time. A gift of precious time can mean a lot. Bonnie Moss writes to inspire and to motivate
