If some crucial piece of information is missing, my expert may come to a conclusion about your case that is inaccurate because he doesn't have everything he needs. Image what happens if your case proceeds to trial and you don't tell me everything in your history or background and we don't learn it during the discovery part of your case. At trial you can be sure the defense will have learned it through their investigation and it'll blow up on you at trial. I guarantee it. The defense will take the missing information and ask our expert the following questions: Q: Doctor, if you were aware that Mr. Jones was a drug addict, would that change your opinion of the case? Q: Doctor, if you knew that the patient chose not to take his blood thinner medications to prevent stroke, and he had a stroke, would that change your opinion about the treatment rendered by these doctors? Q: Did you know that Mr. Jones told the emergency room nurses that he wasn't allergic to any medication? Q: Assume the nurses asked him if he was allergic and he said no. Q: Assume that the nurses gave him penicillin because he specifically told them he wasn't allergic to any medications. Q: Assuming those facts to be true, and by the way, you know that he didn't tell the nurses he was allergic, right? So what happened here? The expert doctor was never told that the patient failed to inform the nurses that he was allergic. He came to conclusions about the treatment based on incomplete and inaccurate information. The physician had to concede the point on cross-examination that if he had not told the nurses about his allergy, then there was no way the hospital could be responsible for his allergic reaction. Let's look at it another way: Why would a client with injuries hide information from his lawyer? The reasons are endless. Some clients feel that it's none of the attorney's business. Some don't like others to know their intimate details of an illness or personal details about their finances. Whatever the reason, a client that withholds information may seriously hamper and jeopardize their case. The key is to let the attorney determine what information is important and relevant. If I know about a problem in the case, let's say someone was convicted of a crime in the past, I know how to deal with it properly and can advise you how to handle the questions that you will be asked. If you lie about your past history (Q: Have you ever been convicted of a crime?) that is literally the 'kiss of death' for your case. Remember, your credibility is the most important part of your case. If you are found to have lied during your testimony, the Judge will instruct the jurors that they may disregard all or part of your testimony. In New York, this jury instruction is called "Falsus in uno," which means that if you lied about one thing, there is the possibility that you have lied about other things as well. How can a jury believe you if you cannot even acknowledge your past problems? When an injured client comes to a lawyer for help they must build a mutual trusting relationship. By Evelyn Cole If you are in good health, you're balanced. If you are sick, you've lost some balance, temporarily I hope. Hang with me here. Picture yourself swinging between Yang and Yin over a precipice. When you stop swinging you see a ledge. You stand on it, safely. Now, if you're unfamiliar with Eastern medicine, consider the Aristotelian Mean. Aristotle advocated following a path between two extremes. If you swing too far in either direction you are apt to get sick. Since I have skimmed the surface of Eastern Philosophy, Aristotle, Stephen Hawkings' string theory, brain research, religions, meditation, and Western medical science, I am no authority, but I can show you how they relate to good health. First, Yang refers to the masculine, left-brained energy in everyone and Yin the right-brained, feminine energy. When these two are out of balance, things go awry. Acupuncture is the medical practice of releasing blocked flow of energy to regain balance and good health. Obviously, it works. String theory, I think, says everything in the universe consists of strings of energy. Nothing is solid. (Phew, wish I could understand physics!) Brain research shows three major parts to the human brain: reptile, limbic, and neo-cortex. We use our reptile brain whenever we feel our survival threatened. (Explains continual warfare.) The limbic system, our midbrain or early mammalian brain, stores our emotions. We use the neo-cortex for thinking, forward planning and problem solving. All three brains are interdependent and function together. The neo-cortex houses the right and left brain. When either of these is too far out of balance we suffer. You may know, slightly, an accountant or computer programmer who is so left-brained he is practically a hermit. Or you may know an artist who is so right-brained he forgets to pay his rent and is often in some kind of trouble. I think most physicists use all three brains in balance. I may be wrong. Experiments with meditation have shown some amazing results. Dr. Richard Davidson of the W.M. Keck Laboratory for Functional Brain Imaging and Behavior studied the brain waves of some Tibetan Buddhist monks, including the Dalai Lama. He found unusually high amounts of gamma brain wavesbrain waves that increase compassion for others. Compassion comes out of good balance and good health. Bill Harris, Director of Centerpointe, created a sound track designed to create the same brain waves experienced by the Buddhist monks. I have benefited from Centerpointe's sound tracks. They put my left and right brains in balance and kicked out my shy bone by broadcasting my words subliminally into each ear at different rates of speed. I recommend the book, "Born a Healer" by Chunyi Lin. Finally, there's nothing like Western medicine when you tear a meniscus or get a concussion, among other off-balance things. In our Western World fear hovers below the surface. The more money and power we have, the more fear. We are not openly afraid. It shows up as anxiety in our dreams and in our bodies. Anxiety is catching, like bird flu. I spent a lifetime hunching up my shoulders, anxiously expecting to be yelled at for something I did wrong. My shoulders finally gave out. I had them replaced. Now they set off security alarms. Sweet revenge? Since you have read this far, you will be fascinated by "Does Mind-Over-Body Healing Work?" It's an article by an African professor of Western Medicine that begins, "Life is energy, and all living beings are energy beings." Google the title. You may be surprised by his thesis. Well, it doesn't get any less strange for your forty-fourth anniversary. Most likely as the list makers were getting to this end of the list, they were just running out of ideas. If you think not, just try on this year's offering for size. What exactly is it? Well, you're going to be taking your spouse to the supermarket. That's right. This year's anniversary gift idea is groceries. You know, those things that you get at the local Pathmark and bring home to fill your stomachs with. Well, this year you get to make those groceries a special anniversary gift for your lovely wife or handsome husband. If you're scratching your head wondering how you're going to pull this off, we've got a few ideas that should do just the trick. One idea is to go on a shopping spree. No, not just take a trip to the supermarket. A real shopping spree complete with gift certificate and all the trimmings. Considering how expensive groceries are just for a normal day out shopping, you're going to want to make that gift certificate out for a sizable amount. We'll leave that amount up to you, but just remember, $100 barely feeds a family of three for a week these days. So you probably want to make that certificate out for at least $250 if not more. You can offer to go with your spouse on this spree or let him or her go alone. Make it their choice. If the idea of the shopping spree seems a little corny, what you may want to do is have certain groceries delivered to the house as a surprise. If you really want this to be an eventful day, call up a number of different places that maybe specialize in different kinds of foods and have them all make a delivery at different times during the day. Make sure your spouse is home the whole day. That way, each time the doorbell rings and there's another delivery person at the door, there's another surprise to go along with him. The trick here is not to have too many different deliveries. Three or four should be fine. After the fourth one, the whole thing might get a little old. You want to keep the element of surprise. The second delivery will actually be a bigger surprise than the first one as your spouse will figure that one delivery was the whole gift. You will get a great reaction to this gift. Of course, if you want to keep the whole thing simple, you can just go out yourself and pick up a few special items from the grocery store that you normally don't get. For example, if you've been putting off getting that lobster tail because it is too expensive, now is a perfect time to get a few. The only trouble with this year's anniversary gift is that eventually it will be gone, but at least you'll enjoy eating it while you can. Michael Russell

Neuropeptide - Amino Polypeptide Skin Care Comparison

from other effective antiaging skin care treatments
on the market, we first have to determine
the difference between neuropeptide and amino
polypetide ingredients. Neuro- and pentapaptides are both
peptides but neuro refers to the very specific functions
of this peptide group, while penta merely refers to the
size of certain peptide molecules. Peptide seems to be the IT word in antiaging skin creams
today. We have copper peptides, amino-polypeptides,
hexapeptides, pentapeptides and now neuropeptides. And then
there are all the variants like acetyl hexapeptide-3 and
palmitoyl pentapeptide (a.k.a palmitoyl oligopeptide).
The list is virtually endless and very confusing to the
non-biochemist. Let me try to help you wade through some of
the jargon. A peptide is simply a small protein which is made up of amino
acids. Peptides are active at very small doses, are highly
specific and have a very good safety profile when used
physiologically that is, to assist or change an organisms
physical processes. If we take apart some of the peptide labels
above, we can begin to discriminate among them. The use of amino in amino-polypeptide is a bit redundant
because all peptides are made of amino acids. The poly just
means this is a peptide of several amino acids. A hexapeptide
is a chain of exactly six (hexa) amino acids; a pentatpeptide
is a chain of five (penta). One chemist working with a
palmitoylated five-amino-acid-chain peptide named it palmitoyl
pentapeptide, while another chemist studying the same molecule
called it palmitoyl oligopeptide. This is a legitimate, though
less specific, label since oligo means few. And so the
confusion grows. The term neuropeptide is a bit more helpful in that it
actually describes the function of the peptide. Neuropeptides
act as neuromodulators, neurotransmitters, neurohormones, and
hormones. Research into neuropeptides has exploded in recent
years to the extent that there is a scientific journal named
Neuropeptides whose aim is the rapid publication of
original research and review articles, dealing with the
structure, distribution, actions and functions of peptides in
the central and peripheral nervous systems. What is exciting about neuropeptides is their power and reach.
Other neurotransmitters transmit central nervous system
signals in one direction and along a path from A to B.
Neuropeptides transmit omnidirectionally outward and can even
direct transmissions in reverse. As neuromodulators, they can
activate and deactivate other neurotransmitters. The
scientific mind boggles at the potential. The names of some of the neuropeptides may be familiar and
help you to understand the potential of unlocking the secrets
of these peptide molecules. Neuropeptides are grouped into
families based on similarities in their amino acid sequences.
There are the Tachykinins; the Insulins; the Somatostatins;
the Gastrins such as cholecystokinin used to diagnose
gallbladder and pancreatic problems; and the Opioids such as
the enkephalins the bodys own opiates or painkillers. As to how neuropeptides might affect the skin,
an abstract in the July/August 2003 Brazilian Annals of
Dermatology states: There is increasing evidence that
cutaneous nerve fibers play a modulatory role in a variety
of acute and chronic skin processes. Local interactions between skin
cells, skin immune components and neuronal tissues occur
specially through neuropeptides Neuropeptide-related
functions on skin and immune cells, as well ...nerve fibers
in cutaneous inflammatory responses, hypersensitivity
reactions and dermatoses, namely psoriasis, atopic
dermatitis, leprosy and alopecia." Now that you know that a neuropeptide has a function in the
central nervous system and that a pentapeptide might also be
a neuropeptide (having five amino acids in its chain) but not
all neuropeptides are pentapeptides, how can you decide
whether to pay the extra money for the exciting new
neuropeptide creams? You want some evidence that they are
sufficiently more effective to justify the higher price, right? In sorting through all the peptides currently touted for
antiaging skin care, I decided they can be placed into one of
three groups depending on the amount and quality on the
published research and development behind their use in skin care. Some peptides have a lot of published scientific research behind
them. They were developed for medical use and because of their
success, found their way into antiaging cosmeceuticals. Copper
peptide falls into this group since it has been studied and
employed in wound healing since the 1970s. Palmitoyl
pentapeptide also falls into this group. Doctors were already
prescribing Strivectin-SD for stretch mark and scar removal when
clinical studies of its superior wrinkle-reducing properties
were presented at the 20th World Congress of Dermatology in 2002. Other peptides have been developed within the cosmetic industry
and quickly brought to market. The companies are careful to
make no medical claims in order to avoid the lengthy FDA review
process for a drug. Argiriline, a.k.a. acetyl hexapeptide-3,
falls into this group. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence that,
similar to Botox, it reduces a muscles ability to tense and form
deep lines of expression. Customer reviews are quite positive
and more companies are incorporating the ingredient into their
treatment lines. In the third group are peptides that are very new or are
proprietary and not widely available. Dr. Nicholas Perricones
neuropeptide creams fall into this category. His neuropeptide
variants all contain the prefix CL. No research labs I could
locate are studying or making the CL variants. Of course, as we
saw above in the case of palmitoyl pentatpeptide, he may have
just given an already known neuropeptide a different name. The consumer has little to go on except Dr. Perricones word.
That is, unless you consider his track record and broad
following. He hasnt yet failed to deliver. His previous
antiaging developments have met with broad acclaim and his
three books have been on the New York Times Bestseller list. Dr. Perricone explains his work with neuropeptides in his third
book "The Perricone Promise" thus. In 'The Wrinkle
Cure' and 'The Perricone Prescription', I introduced a
major theme of my research: the Inflammation-Disease-Aging
Connection. Because inflammation is a great contributor to
accelerated aging, it has been an important focus of my ongoing
scientific research. And we now know that neuropeptides and

Increased Prospecting Means Less Rejection

By Steve Chambers When new distributors start their businesses they typically work on a part time basis and understandably dont have as much time as someone who has made a decision to work their business full time. Time does not determine success---activity does. There is nothing wrong with working part time, but it is critical that new recruits understand that their success can be tracked back to the level of activity that they put into their business. The facts show that most new distributors quit their businesses within the first few months because they become frustrated over the rejection that invariably comes from working in our industry. I had a recruit that was gung-ho when she first started working her business part time. She would diligently call 10 people a week and invite them to her house to see her business presentation. A couple of them actually showed up to the presentation but did not sign up. The others simply did not show up at all nor did they bother to call her to cancel their appointment. She was crushed. She continued in this mode for a few months, and sure enough, her pride wounded she ended up quitting the business. Her friends and her professional relationships were more important to her than being beaten down. As leaders in our industry, we are told to reassure our new prospects that it is not about them and to not take rejection personally, but we are all human creatures and that is easier said than done in real life. Rejection comes from many different sources and since new distributors typically work from their warm market when they first get started, it is family, friends, and business associates who are the first to start beating on your new distributors and begin to steal their dreams and their business building efforts. That is why it hurts so much when we get our first dose of rejection from our initial prospecting efforts. Because it is our warm market that is rejecting us, it is as if they are invalidating our desire to take control of our lives and create a new future for ourselves. While all of this is normal for first year recruits, they need to understand the best way to get around this problem is to increase the number of people they prospect to. Talking to more prospects will lead to more new reps which will lead to greater feelings of accomplishment and thus minimize the feelings of rejection. Great, Steve, thanks for sharingbut how do you increase the number of prospects you talk to once youve blasted through your warm market and your ego has had so many shots of rejection fired through it you feel like a block of Swiss cheese? Well, you could try to implement the 3-foot rule. Isnt that what your up-line has been telling you? Everyone is a prospect. If they are within three feet of you and they are breathing, theyre a prospectright? There is nothing like some good ole belly to belly networking. Get back with me, Dr. Phil, and let me know how that is working out for you. You could try cold calling prospects in your area and hope to find someone looking to buy what you have to offer. Just grab your local phone book and start calling people. I mean its all about numbers isnt it? That seems simple enough, right? While I am sure you will talk to lots of people, I doubt is you will see an increase in your closing ratio that would justify the time you would spend making all those cold calls. There is a better way and if you stick with me Ill share it with you. All of these things happened to me and all of my new recruits until I learned the secrets revealed to me in the Power Call. I learned things that my up-line NEVER shared with me. I shared the information I learned with my down-line and unbelievably, our closing ratios are going to go through the roof! High Nutritional Value Carp Bait Design

By Tim F. Richardson So how do you sort out the best baits to hook big carp these days? So-called food baits are very commonly used in carp fishing these days, especially where extreme fishing pressure on many waters means that using quality nutritional bait equals success instead of failure. But how would you make an effective homemade carp bait by using the optimal proven nutritional protein food ingredients levels? What is the starting point for working out what ideal bait protein levels are? Carp have essential carp dietary requirements for proteins, and the aim is to provide a balanced profile of amino acids in your bait. This sounds technical, so a scoring system is used to measure the nutritional biological value of an individual ingredient. It is best to notice that this value is based on digestion by humans. There is little data of this type from directly testing carp baits in carp digestion. However the latest and most accurate method of measuring biological nutritional value, and most importantly for carp baits, food protein nutritional value is the new American measurement called: The fixed dietary protein percentage. When we mention protein carp baits its often misunderstood that the amount of protein type ingredients we use in our baits need to be in very high levels to be effective, as in the old high protein baits. Such protein baits were estimated to have a carp biological convertible protein content as high as 75 % protein or even as high as 95% protein! This content was often achieved by using milk protein extractions and derivatives such as casein, lactalbumin and sodium caseinate, among others, mostly having a protein value, in human consumption of over 70% protein. Since those times it has been observed that carp baits with much lower protein values are very effective in both the long and short-term. Today baits are often made with an estimated carp convertible protein content of just 30%, but are still termed high nutritional baits and in fact are superior in design to the old high protein baits because their nutritional properties are more balanced and efficiently used by carp while maintaining very high attraction. The dietary protein a carp essentially needs, can be tested scientifically, using a mixture of high quality casein and gelatin, supplemented with crystalline amino acids. This is fed to the carp in graded levels, and over time, the carp are measured for optimum growth per graded protein level. All this can be shown on a graph with Growth Response (vertical line), and Dietary Protein Level (horizontal line). There will be a Maximum Growth Response at the point where the Optimum Dietary Protein Level is reached. In carp nutrition tests, its called the Break Point and allows for the fixed dietary protein percentage to be calculated; as a percentage of the carps essential diet. This is the type of figure that is used to design specific proprietary, carp and koi dietary feeds. Please notice, in the tests, food fat content was always supplemented when not present in sufficient levels in the protein and carbohydrate sources. These provide essential fatty acid groups, needed especially for cell wall structure and maximal protein synthesis, among other uses. Fat levels never read over 5 % to 10 % and averaging 2.5 to 5 % of the total dry feed. There are health consequences for fish as a result of excess fat in bait, for example Vitamin E deficiency. The protein to carbohydrate to fat ratio is extremely important in producing the healthiest carp; resulting in optimum protein digestion and assimilation. This converts to the fastest carp growth and weight gains. More energy is released in digestion when the protein, carbohydrate and fat levels are in optimum levels. This balance has proven to catch more big fish in the long-term. Anglers have found they caught as many carp on baits of only mid-low protein, for example: 40 % to 60 % protein, as a bait of very high, protein 85 % for example. However, much below 30% protein, (for example 25 %,) and the catch rates started to drop by comparison to higher protein baits. The subject carp bait nutritional value bait success, hinges around the carps essential daily dietary requirements and key dietary deficiencies. If a carp water is very rich and carp have very few dietary deficiencies, then the bait that offers the best nutritional value at the least energy in digestive cost would most likely achieve the most success long-term as the carp will instinctively gain benefits from the bait an this encourages them to keep eating it. This would be a big advantage over using low nutritional value bait on the same rich water. A great diversity of carp baits are being fed to the fish on many carp waters today. And in amounts that were unheard of 25 years ago. There are many more carp anglers feeding up the fish with free baits these days. Consequently, the fish in different waters respond differently to this free food. This reaction may depend more on the water quality, or availability of natural food, or on the consistent level of fishing pressure or on high or low stock levels. Some waters will still produce bigger fish, regularly on poorer quality baits or instant attractor flavored carbohydrate based baits. By far the majority of big fish waters, certainly the pressured ones in the UK and in Europe, produce the very biggest fish more and more consistently on nutritional food baits. This is no coincidence and relates back to carp essential dietary requirements that must be met for basic survival. This does lead to many big fish treating nutritional baits as an essential naturalized food supply since they are fed them permanently 24 hours a day on many hard pressured waters! So in remembering that a low protein, carbohydrate based bait may only contain: 6 % to 14 % protein, as in the case of a semolina based bait for example. This is not enough to sustain a big carp healthily without supplementation with other nutrients and natural foods sources. This is compared to fish meal based bait for example, with high levels of predigested protein ingredients incorporated. Such bait is far superior nutritionally and big fish will tend to eat this preferentially, especially in a highly stocked fishery. So, by providing carp with the optimum ratios of nutrients at the least digestive energy cost, gives more energy to the carp to eat more food, therefore giving you more opportunity for more takes and more fish! He regularly consumed the highest muscle convertible biological value proteins, like whey and caseins. Such dietary supplements represented the very highest quality available to body builders in the world, at that time. The appliance of scientific research may sometimes be hit and miss and there are certainly few proven absolutes in carp bait making and nutrition, due to lack of direct scientific testing. However, nutritional carp baits have proven themselves by their catches over the decades, and the ability to understand, make and correctly apply these baits, is a massive edge in big carp fishing indeed. Bass Tactics For Delaware's Lums Pond

By Steven Vonbrandt Lums Pond, located just off Rt. # 71, in Kirkwood Delaware, is a 190 acre state park, with a very shallow launching ramp, and has room for about 25-30 vehicles with trailers in the main lot by the launching ramp. There is a daily fee at sate parks, or a yearly pass can be purchased at any of the park offices. This is a prime location for bass anglers in the spring and summer, and receives fairly heavy fishing pressure, from weekend anglers and tournament fisherman. Although it has a lot of pressure, there are still quite a few big bass in Lums, along with a decent population of Hybrid Striped Bass. If you follow these steps, you can still connect with a real trophy in Lums Pond this spring. "Wood Cover" There is quite a lot of wood, laydowns, and cut off stumps in Lums. Most of the wood is located on the left and right hand sides of the main lake, right after the beach and docks, about 1000 yards up from the launching ramp. The first area to try is the laydowns on the right, as you head up past the beach. This area is overlooked by a lot of anglers, but is a good location for largemouth's in the two to four pound range. This same area also holds quite a few Striped Bass hybrids that run around six pounds on average, but some in the eight and nine pound class have been caught here. You can't go wrong by flipping a black/blue jig, with either a blue Uncle Josh Pork trailer, or a Sweet Beaver trailer. Both have worked real well flipped into the laydowns along both shores in this area. The North shore receives the most sunlight in the spring, and as a result, warms first. I like to use a seven foot, Falcon graphite rod, with a Shimano Chronarch, spooled with twenty to twenty-five pound test. Flip all the laydowns in this area, working each one of the branches moving from the outside in, right up to the shore. If this area doesn't produce right away, move across the lake to the other laydowns, and work them the same way. When you can't get a hit in this area on the jig, often, you can move off this area a little farther, and rework the same areas with a 3/8 ounce Terminator spinnerbait in Golden Shiner, with tandem blades. Make as much contact with the wood from as many different angles as possible. Keeping a buzzbait rigged for this area is a good idea, and many times, repeated casts to the same areas over and over, at different angles will provoke a reaction strike. "Points and Drop-offs" Although it is common knowledge that bass will stage on drop-offs and points this time of year, all drop-offs and points aren't alike. Look for drop-offs and points that are nearest to the main channel, preferably on the North shore, that contain some type of new vegetation growth under the surface. There are several areas that are eight and nine feet deep, but the average depth is four feet, with some of the shoreline much shallower. The water is very stained to muddy, so the bass will go very shallow to feed. Don't be afraid to cast right up against the shore in the very shallow water. At first glance, Lums doesn't seem to have a lot of grass, algae, or emergent weed growth, but there is a wide variety of aquatic vegetation under the surface that hold lots of baitfish, and bass! One of the best spots to connect with some big largemouth's and hybrids is the sand point and drop-off just across from the dog training area. Work this area well with a white/chartreuse spinnerbait and long shad colored minnow baits, such as a Husky Suspend Jerk, or a Rattlin' Rogue in blue/chrome,or a Lucky Craft "Pointer". Last year working this point, and the one directly to the north of the cove with a pier, we caught more than eight bass in the three to five pound class, with a couple of nice six pound Hybrids thrown in. "Buzz the Flats" Don't forget the buzzbait in the spring. When the water warms to sixty to sixty-five degrees, the buzzbait will draw tremendous topwater explosions on overcast days,and sometimes the whole day. Many times in April, we started with the buzzbait early in the morning, looking for active fish, and never switched baits all day. Some days of twenty to twenty-five fish, are not uncommon at all, with most in the three to four pound class. The best areas for the buzzbait in Lums are located on the flats that are adjacent to deep water. A good fish locator, such as a Lowrance, that is made for shallow water performance, is a great tool to have when you first start to explore Lums, as it is one of the larger Delaware Ponds. Head straight up the lake from the launching ramp until you get to the upper end of the lake. There will be a cove with a fishing pier all the way up on the right. Work this area with repetitious casts using a double-buzz, in black, and a clacker type buzzbait, such as a Terminator Ball Buster or Charon Klacker buzz, in 1/2 ounce, with a trailer hook. Many times here you will get a lot of short strikes due to the muddy water. A trailer hook will increase your hookups greatly. Stay well off shore here, and make as many as thirty casts, from different directions, before moving on. Make sure to hesitate just a second when the bass strike, and set the hook hard. I like to use a 7 foot Lews Crankin stick, or a G.Loomis Crankin stick with seventeen to twenty pound test for this type of fishing. "Cover Water" When all of the above methods fail, start covering water. Sometimes the bass are still a little off shore in the early spring, and covering water quickly, until you get a strike, is a good idea. The best lures for this are 1/2 ounce chrome/blue Rattlin' Rapalas. Position the boat a little off shore, and cast out to the drop-offs and weedlines, retrieving it back with a pumping motion, raising your rod from a 9 to 12 o'clock position. Make sure the hooks are really sharp. When you locate the fish, work the area slowly with the lipless crankbaits, spider grubs, and a 4" Senko." Follow these tips for Lums Pond this year in the spring, and you will get a quick start to a "trophy year." Later in the afternoon, the area directly across the lake from here contains a lot of overhanging trees, and a lot of stumps. These stumps can't be seen until it's too late. So make sure you have a breakaway mount on your electric motor, and keep the outboard up out of the water. There is a no-wake policy on Delaware ponds, but you can use the outboards. The bass in these heavily pressured areas become conditioned to sounds more easily, as they can't rely so much on sight, due to the muddy water. So keep the trolling motor on low, and try to avoid any banging around in the boat. I have caught bass with the trolling motor on, but most of the bass above five pounds were caught with the trolling motor off. Keep these things in mind this year at Lums, and you will connect with the bass you are looking for. Most people get on the water too late. Start in mid to late March, or as soon as the water temperature gets to around forty-eight to fifty degrees. All the baits discussed in this article are available at www.delawaretackle.com. Each cycle is divided into 12 phases of which one phase is 10,800 years. In a cycle, the first six phases belong to "Yang" meaning creation and cultivation. The last six phases belong to "Yin" meaning harvesting and suspension. All matters and beings also follow the order but on a smaller scale, the four seasons which repeat itself; growth is in spring, flourishing in summer, harvesting in autumn and suspension in winter. A human being goes through four stages; infancy, adolescence, adulthood and old age. It can also be called the progression and regression cycle of life. In the growth phases, God called on seven Buddhas to govern the world so the growth would be orderly. In the regression phases, God called on three Buddhas to amass the souls so that the returning of souls and the essence of everything are orderly. In the last 5,000 years, it has three periods called the Green, Red and White Periods and three Buddhas. The Green Period was ruled by Ran-deng Buddha which began around 3043BC for 1816 years. At that time there were nine worldwide catastrophes and they were all floods called the "Long-han Flood". The Red Period was ruled by Sakyamuni Buddha which began around the time of King Wen of Zhou Dynasty year 1227BC for 3140 years. At that time there were eighteen fire catastrophes in the form of wars and battles called the "Zhi-ming Fire". The third Period is called the "White Period" and is ruled by Mi-Le Buddha about a hundred years ago which occurs at the transition from the Red Period to the White Period and will last for 10,800 years. According to the collective sins and debts human beings carry, God descends eighty-one catastrophes. The eighty-first catastrophe is the catastrophe of "Gang-feng" (a wind-like catastrophe). This Killer Wind Catastrophe is just like explosions of nuclear bombs; after a big bang, everything within its range will be anihilated. It is the last catastrophe of the Third Period and never seen before by man. Why is the last catastrophe so destructive? The technology and civilization of mankind have reached the peak. People have disregarded the Truth and moralities. The human mind is so deteriorated that most people are driven by desires. Debts and sins mankind collected have never been so much before, therefore the magnitudes of catastrophes and destructions will be much greater than before. The last catastrophe will lead to the total destruction of the human civilization and technology. It is also the time for all righteous souls to go back to God's Kingdom. Vital constituents and trace elements will inevitably be missing. It is the total of the components of an essential oil working together which produces a healing effect. If oils are referred to as 'nature identical' this implies that the oil is synthetic and produced in the laboratory and is, therefore, unsuitable for aromatherapy. By James Kilkelly Many plants vie for my attention during the month of May. Here are four of my favourites. Cornus alternifolia Argenta Cornus alternifolia Argenta is commonly known as the Variegated pagoda dogwood. Originating in Asia, its common name relates to its shape which resembles a sacred tower in China. This large deciduous shrub or small tree can have ultimate height of 3 metres (9ft); with a spread of approx 2 metres (6ft). Within the next week its layers of slim branches are dotted with clusters of star shaped yellowish-white flowers, followed by blue-black fruits. A special mention for the bright green leaves edged yellow which turn reddish-purple in autumn. You can use the Variegated pagoda dogwood as a large specimen shrub or as a small tree simply by removing any lower branches as they appear, this will create a clear stem and a showy canopy. To ensure quickest growth you must position this plant in full sun. I would highly recommend this dogwood if you have limited space and require a tree that will not over-power you garden. Many garden centres may not have it in stock but it is only a phone-call to their suppliers away, and well worth waiting for. Kolkwitzia amablis Pink Cloud Kolkwitzia amablis Pink Cloud is commonly known as the Beauty bush. This fast growing deciduous shrub is a native of China and grows to an ultimate height of 3 metres (9ft); with a spread of approx 2.5 metres (7 to 8 ft). Because of this size and its slightly old fashioned mounded look it is not a shrub I see planted in many new gardens. This is unfortunate as the Beauty bush lives up to its name whilst in flower. For at least the 3 weeks you can expect to see showy masses of bell shaped pink flowers with a yellow throat. These flowers are held amongst its small oval grey-green leaves on slightly arching branches. Kolkwitzia amablis Pink Cloud requires a position that receives upwards of 4 hours sunlight a day in a soil that is limey or alkaline. If you are looking for a specimen shrub or a larger shrub for the rear of a bed then do not over-look this old time stalwart. Ribes sanguineum Ribes sanguineum commonly known as the Flowering Currant. This large deciduous shrub can have ultimate height of 3 metres (9ft); with a spread of approx 3 metres (9ft). A native to the United States, it is frost hardy and right now is laden down with pendulous reddish pink flowers. These flowers which resemble miniature bunches of grapes are held amongst light green leaves from mid to late spring. Both the flowers and leaves are scented, the leaves especially so when bruised or crushed. The Flowering Currant is mostly used in the mixed border as a showy specimen plant although I have also used it in whip planting schemes to good effect. If you would like to cut some flowering stems to bring indoors, they will last approx 6 to 10 days. To ensure quick growth plant in a position with full to partial sun and an adequate supply of water. I would highly recommend this shrub if you have a problem growing plants due to air pollution as it is very resistant to exhaust fumes etc. Two varieties to look out for are Pulborough Scarlet and King Edward VII Alyssum saxitile The clump forming perennial Alyssum saxitile is commonly known as the Basket of gold. This native of Europe is evergreen and grows no higher than 20 cm (8 inches); it has a spread of approx 30cm (1ft). Because of its size and its ability to tolerate drought it is ideal for planting in cracks in your paving, crevices in your walls and of course in the rockery. For at least the next 4 weeks you can expect to see clusters of tiny vibrant yellow flowers above its grey-green leaves. Alyssum saxitile requires a position which drains freely and receives upwards of 4 hours sunlight a day. If you would like to attract some butterflies to your garden then plant clusters of Alyssum throughout, sit back and watch as the yellow flowers draw them in. A Guide For Catching More Smallmouth Bass

By Steven Vonbrandt They have spent more than 35 years fishing the lakes, streams, and rivers of the United States in search of largemouth and smallmouth bass. They have guided clients to numerous trophy smallmouth here in the northeast, and have entered enough trophy fish to be inducted into the N.A.F.C. Hall Of Fame in 2003. In this article, Steve and Kurt of Reeltime Anglers Guide Service, will share some of their best tips to help you understand and catch more and bigger smallmouth bass here in the northeast. Time and time again over the years, we have listened to many anglers and clients express their frustration at trying to catch small mouth bass. Most anglers don't realize that these fish have their own set of rules that are different than a largemouth, and that is what sets them apart.The biggest differences between a smallmouth and a largemouth bass are as follows: If you fish for smallmouth here in the northeast, especially in the Susquehanna river in Maryland, you will find that smallmouth bass do not stick that tight to cover. This is even more apparent in some of our slack water reservoirs. Smallmouth relate much more to a sudden or rapid depth change than they do cover. When we fish for largemouths, we are all taught to fish brushpiles and thick weedbeds, but small mouth bass are more likely to be caught on a rock ledge that drops off quickly from about six to twelve feet. This totally different than on the faster moving waters on the Susquehanna or other smallmouth rivers down the east coast. Heading to the river: When fishing in the reservoirs here such as Conowingo, or in the rivers like the Susquehanna, small mouths are sometimes caught shallow, but they are seldom more than 10-20 yards away from deep water.
Everywhere we go, we see the majority of bass anglers beating the shoreline, and as this may work for largemouth bass most of the time, if you are after big small mouth bass, turn around and cast to the open water rather than beat the shore. Unlike largemouth, smallmouth often group together by size. We found that if we were catching smaller fish, in the eleven to fourteen inch range, we rarely caught a big one in the same area. On the other hand, when we caught a small mouth that was above four or five pounds, many times there were several that size and even larger swimming right along with them. Big largemouth bass are loners, usually found by themselves on the best piece of structure, while larger smallmouth bass will often school together. There are several things that tell you that smallmouth bass are much better suited for strong current than largemouth. For one, their pointed noses and the sharp angle of their fins are indicators that they are more suited to current. They often get behind a rock or stump and rush out to feed. Largemouth can adapt somewhat to current, but are much more at home in slack water. SPRINGTIME: When the water temperatures start to reach about 45 degrees, here in the northeast that happens around mid to late March, we start looking for big smallmouth bass. Water temperature is critical this time of year, as just an increase of a few degrees can really turn smallmouth on.
In the spring, in Maryland, and especially in New York, our two best baits for small mouth are the hair jig, usually in black or brown, and a Yamamoto grub, in smoke or chartreuse. We fish these baits in about six to twelve feet of water where there are clay or gravel flats. When smallmouth start moving up out of deeper water they are spooky, so stealth is very important. Don't drop anything on the bottom of the boat, and keep the trolling motor on as low as possible. The best method is to cast shallow and retrieve the lure slowly back towards the deeper water. Slowly is the key word here. In cold water, a slow, steady retrieve is deadly for big smallmouth. When the water starts to get above 50 degrees, the smallmouth will start to move around the flats more. Some of the best spots for smallmouth don't really look very good to the average angler that is used to fishing for largemouth. The better areas are just some pea gravel or some clay with maybe a stump or two, but fish these areas slowly now, and you will connect with a big smallmouth. Swimming a Yamamoto grub in these type of areas is absolutely deadly at these water temperatures. Keep working these areas slowly and don't move too quickly, and you will hook one of the better smallmouth in the area. Many times here in the northeast, we get a lot of heavy rains, which really muddies up the water such as the Susquehanna River and flats. This can really ruin a lot of the small mouth fishing, but finding clearer water can produce good fish even under these adverse conditions, as we proved earlier this year out on the flats. By searching out some clear water in the same type of areas, we connected with several big fish while we were hearing nothing but complaints from other anglers. In lakes or reservoirs, as well as the rivers, if you move to the back of creek arms and crank the advancing mudline, you can still connect with good fish. Another thing that works well in these situations is slow rolling a spinnerbait, such as a Terminator T-1, in 3/8 ounce or smaller, along the banks that are windblown that contain some chunk rock. This has always worked well in various parts of the country for many years. SPAWN: Smallmouth will spawn when the water is about sixty to sixty-five degrees, and they like to do it on gravel flats, clay points, humps, and protected bays. They spawn anywhere from about two to six feet deep here, but most of the time they are too deep to see on their beds in most rivers in the northeast, but in New Englad and some New Jersey and maryland Lakes, you can see them many times. When fishing for argemouth on beds, such as in Delaware and Maryland, the largemouth have to be finessed into striking many times. I watch some good anglers take at least 30 minutes to catch one fish on a bed, but think about this? One 3-4 pound Smallmouth every hour in the tournament?? 8 Nice Smallmouth and a few largemouth to choose from to make that 17-21 pound bag, which is not uncommen anymore on the Upper Chesapeake Bay tournaments and especialy the Finger Lakes of New York. It is really very simple to catch large bedding smallmouth by swimming a smoke or chartreuse colored Yamamoto grub or even a small "Senko" across their beds, and many times a Lucky Craft CBBDS crankbait in chartreuse/black. We always practice catch and release, and if you want to continue to enjoy this type of fishing, releasing them right away after they are caught is crucial. POST-SPAWN: When the water temperatures reach sixty-eight to seventy-two degrees, you can really catch quite a few good sized smallmouth in the daytime even in bright sun. The small mouth move into two different patterns at this time and really smash top water baits such as Zara Spooks. They will either hold near the bedding areas or on the outer edges of flooded bushes, and nail Spinnerbaits and floating worms, or they suspend between two points on main lake flats. Either way, these lures and methods will provide some great daytime action. SUMMER: Here in the northeast, the smallmouth action really slows down during the hot summer months. When we aren't with a client here, or fishing a tournament trail that demands all of our attention, we usually head south towards lakes like Pickwick in Alabama. We have had great success here throughout the years in the summer months. There is a lot of current at Pickwick, and it keeps the water much cooler, and very well oxygenated, and this is key in catching big smallmouth. The best places here are on the channel drops and offshore rock piles. If you don't know this area, it is best to hire a guide unless you are planning on spending more than a few weeks there and enjoy the challenge of trying to locate these areas yourself. It is usually very hot and humid this time of year, and we would rather fish for them at night as we do the largemouth here this time of year. Smallmouth move onto humps and roadbeds looking for crawfish and a Yamamoto spider grub on a jighead is our best lure at this time. Another good bait is the Terminator night bait, a single Colorado blade in black, and it works well in many areas at this time of year at night. At night, we do catch some smallies shallow at times, but you are still better concentrating your efforts in about six to fifteen feet of water. FALL: By October, the lakes and rivers around here are about sixty-eight to seventy degrees, and the fish are suspending in the deeper water a little more. After there are a few nights where the temperatures start to really drop the water temperatures, the smallmouth start to become far more catchable. Long points that run out into the river channel are perfect spots to use a crankbait to catch these smallies-especially on the windy days. We also take good size smallmouth on blade baits and spinnerbaits that are suspended on rock banks. WINTER: When the water temperatures are about 50-54 degrees here, usually about mid November, the smallmouth we have caught were always on a point with a fast taper into deeper water. If the smallmouth are in water deeper than fifteen feet, we throw a blade bait or tailspinner, if they are shallower than that, we throw the Yamamoto grub again. We always load these baits with a new product called Megastrike, which is a revolutionary new advance in scent technology. When the water starts to drop below fifty degrees again, the smallmouth become a little more lethargic and start suspending off points and sloping banks. We use a "Hammerhead hair jig" then, or a drop-shot rig with a grub for these fish. Sometimes when these tactics fail, (and they do when the water temperatures drop below forty degrees), we then reverse our tactics and try larger baits such as a big jointed Rapala or similar type bait. We have even caught them trolling these bigger baits this time of year. Although the action is slow, many times the fish are giant! AND NOW,? THE HARD PART!: Locating and then catching big smallmouth is pretty hard in the Susquehanna. That is why it is so much fun. Hopefully by reading some of these methods you have gained a better understanding of where these trophy fish go and somewhat of the forage they are looking for, and of course, this will hopefully get you the fish of a lifetime. Remember, get out early and late in the year and brave the elements, hit these prime areas with the baits we described, and remember most of all, you are after a completely different fish, so you have to think in different terms to be successful.
